Greece 19: Athens - The Parthenon
The most monumental building on the most monumental spot in Athens is the temple celebrating the goddess Athena as a virgin: the Parthenon. It survived in pretty good shape for 2,000 years until 1687 when the Turks used it as an ammunition dump and the Venetians fired a mortar shell at it.
Next stop: Athens - The Caryatids
It is still magnificent.
